ASOCIACIÓN INSTITUTO DE INVESTIGACIÓN SANITARIA BIOGIPUZKOA

Biogipuzkoa Health Research Institute is one of the main health research centres of Osakidetza SVS (the Basque Health Service). It was founded in San Sebastian in 2008 and the prestigious Carlos III Institute of Health (ISCIII) has accredited it as one of the reference Health Research Institutes in Spain since 2011. Biogipuzkoa HRI preferentially boosts translational research focusing on the patient. It covers all research carried out in Gipuzkoa within the framework of the Basque Health Service (Osakidetza – SVS) and aims to improve people’s health through its multi-institutional and inter-disciplinary collaborative structure.
The research is arranged in 7 subject areas that bring together around 350 researchers in 29 groups in the following areas: neurosciences, gastrointestinal and liver disorders, infectious diseases, oncology, systemic diseases, epidemiology and bioengineering. Other cross-cutting research areas include ageing and personalised medicine. It also has access to key research platforms.

Role within Force Repair

Biogipuzkoa plays a crucial role in Force Repair, especially through its multidisciplinary 3D printing platform and Bioengineering group, which adds value by enhancing project outcomes and supporting the translation of innovation to patients. Biogipuzkoa leads WP1 on the production of nanocapsules and dynamic hydrogels to be used in smart and functional wound dressings and contributes to WP5 in the scaling-up and establishment of the production process.
